Mallorca has two wine denominations of origin, Binissalem and Pla i Llevant, and a good handful of wineries that open their doors for guided visits and tastings. Most of them are inland, among vineyards and almond trees, less than an hour from Palma, and nearly all ask you to book ahead. It is a relaxed plan, largely under cover, and ideal for a cloudy day or a break from the beach.

This guide sorts the wineries we list by area: what each tasting includes, how long it lasts, the starting price where it appears in our listings, which languages are offered and which ones set a minimum age. At the end you will find tours with transfers, so nobody has to drive, and other tastings on the island: olive oil, brandy, gin and craft beer.

What a winery visit in Mallorca is like

The usual format combines a walk through the vineyard or the production hall, the barrel room and a tasting of three to six wines with something to eat: cheese, sobrassada, coca or pa amb oli. It lasts one to two hours and, in our listings, starting prices range from about 20 euros to just over 60 per person. Longer tastings with a meal run to three hours.

The local grapes you will hear about most are Manto Negro and Callet for reds and Prensal for whites, alongside international varieties. If you are driving, remember that a tasting means several glasses: many wineries pour small measures, but the sensible option is for someone to stay sober or to book a tour with a transfer.

Binissalem, the heart of the D.O. Binissalem

Binissalem is the wine village par excellence, and you can spend a morning hopping from winery to winery. José L. Ferrer, family-run and open since 1931, shows its premises and finishes with four or five wines and snacks; our listing has it from 19.50 euros, one of the most affordable on the list. Sa Cabana offers three tasting formats of 1.5 to 2.5 hours, from 30 euros for three glasses, and the fuller ones add ham, sobrassada, Mallorcan cheeses and figs.

Celler Tianna Negre, between Binissalem and Inca, explains the grape varieties and how the wine is made and offers several tasting levels, in Spanish, English and German; its Premium visit with tasting is listed from 45 euros. At the Son Roig estate of Bodegas Antonio Nadal, the Wine Sensations programme combines a vineyard walk, the cellar and a tasting, hosted by a member of the owning family. Visits run on weekdays, at weekends by appointment only, and no price is published.

Santa Maria del Camí, Consell, Alaró and Inca

Along the road from Palma to Inca there are several long-established wineries. Macià Batle, in Santa Maria del Camí, takes you through the fermentation and bottling rooms, shows the artworks created for its labels and finishes with four or five wines; it is open all year, runs visits at set times in several languages, German included, and our listing puts it from 21 euros. In the same village, Bodega Ramanyà offers vineyard, cellar, three house wines and a collection of old farm tools, in German and English according to the listings.

Bodega Ribas, in Consell, says on its website that it has been in the same family since 1711, and holds tastings in the garden or in the 18th-century house, always by appointment. In Alaró, Bodega Oloron is built underneath the fields: you go down into the cellar and watch the winemaking through large glass panels before a walk in the vineyard. And in Inca, Los Dos Caballeros runs private tastings all year with four glasses of organically grown wine and a board of cheese and cured meats, for over-18s only.

Sencelles, Moscari and Muro: family wineries inland

Sencelles is home to several small wineries with modest prices. Bodegas Santa Catarina starts in the vineyard, goes through the production hall and barrel room and ends on a porch with views of the Tramuntana, from 20 euros with three wines; there are slots at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 from Monday to Friday, with a maximum of ten people. Son Prim, on the road from Inca to Sencelles, has four formats from 20 euros, in Spanish, Catalan, English and German depending on availability, with free cancellation up to 48 hours ahead.

At Ca Sa Padrina you taste three to five wines from local grapes with tapas of sobrassada, cheese and coca, from 27 euros. BiniVista is the longest option in the area: the founder himself shows you the vineyard and pours seven or eight wines with a home-cooked lunch, from 50 euros; confirm the language when booking. A little further north, Can Gelat (Moscari) serves its five organic wines in the vineyard from 34.95 euros, and Bodega Butxet in Muro, next to s'Albufera, runs a two-hour visit with five wines and two tapas from 23 euros; both are for over-18s only.

Pla i Llevant: Petra, Porreres, Algaida, Felanitx and Manacor

The D.O. Pla i Llevant covers the centre and east of the island. In Petra, Miquel Oliver, founded in 1912, is known for having championed dry Muscat in Mallorca; it runs guided visits through vineyard and cellar, also designed for families, and has a tasting room, though booking is advised. In Porreres, Mesquida Mora works organically and biodynamically: its simple format visits the garden, the animals and the cellar and ends with a tasting, biscuits and cheese, from 30 euros.

Oliver Moragues in Algaida, also biodynamic, runs visits every day by reservation: three wines with coca and almonds from 31 euros, or four with tapas, with a reduced price for children aged 7 to 17. In Felanitx, Es Fangar offers seated tastings of five or six wines with cured meats and a vertical tasting of vintages, from 62.50 euros and for adults only. And right in the centre of Manacor, Vins Miquel Gelabert pours six or seven wines with home-made snacks and shows its 1909 cellar, from 35 euros, Monday to Friday: a good indoor choice if it rains.

Llucmajor and the south

If you are staying in Palma, Playa de Palma or the south, Llucmajor is close at hand. Bodegas Vi Rei runs a one-hour guided visit through fermentation, barrels and bottling from 20 euros, with slots in Spanish, English and German (the German ones are not offered in low season, until April). Without a tour you can also taste from 10:00 to 18:00 from 7 euros, the cheapest option in this guide.

Bodegas Bordoy takes you through its vineyards and ends with a tasting of Mediterranean wines with traditional food pairing, from 39.50 euros according to its website; the listings describe a version of about 90 minutes with the barrel room carved into marès stone and five wines outdoors beside the vines. It is offered in Spanish, English and German and is for over-18s only.

Tramuntana and Pollença: mountain vineyards and a sommelier tasting

In the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, Vinyes Mortitx (Escorca) explains how the mountains shape its grapes and pours three, five or eight wines on the terrace with bread, olive oil, ramallet tomatoes and cheese, from 22 euros; booking is required and it is for over-18s. Es Verger, at about 450 metres in Esporles, shows the estate, cellar and olive mill in a single organic visit of one to two hours, with wine and oil tasting; the price is agreed when you book.

Near Pollença, Can Axartell was built in a former quarry so that it works by gravity, without pumping the wine, and its tasting usually includes five wines with Mallorcan tapas. And if you would rather not visit a winery at all, Wine Tasting Mallorca runs a tasting of about 150 minutes with an independent sommelier, five wines from different parts of the island and local produce, in Pollença or at your holiday home, in English, German and Dutch, from 75 euros.

Without a car: tours with transfer and tastings in Palma

So that nobody has to drive, Sa Clasta Wine Tours picks you up anywhere on the island and visits two wineries with three or four wines at each and tapas as a light lunch, in very small groups (minimum four people), from 155 euros. 48h in Mallorca drives you by minivan from Palma to a family winery in Santa Maria del Camí, about 15 minutes away, on a three-hour outing with tasting and snacks; check the exact price, as it is not clear whether it is per person or per booking.

Without leaving Palma, Avinae welcomes groups of up to twelve in its shop in the old town and takes you through Mallorca's vineyards via its wines, with cheese and sobrassada, in about two hours from Tuesday to Saturday, from 58 euros and for over-18s. It is the most practical option if you are just passing through or on a cruise.

Beyond wine: olive oil, brandy, gin and beer

If you are travelling with children or someone does not drink wine, olive oil tastings are a good alternative. In Algaida, Roig shows the olive grove, oil mill, cellar and bottling line in two hours, Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 13:00, from 49.50 euros, with a reduced rate for ages 6 to 14 and free under 6. Nearby, the Treurer estate tours its olive grove and modern mill and ends with a snack featuring its own oil, also from 49.50 euros and from age 15.

For spirits, Bodegas Suau (Marratxí), with more than 170 years of history, offers brandy straight from the cask from 20 euros, and Gin Eva in Llucmajor serves five gins and a cocktail overlooking its copper still, from 55 euros. For craft beer, Forastera in Alaró runs a tasting of five beers with home-made tapas for 12 euros, while Mallorca Beer Co (Campanet) opens its brewery on Fridays at 18:00 with six beers and snacks. The alcohol tastings are for over-18s only.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wine tasting at a Mallorca winery cost?

In our listings, guided visits with tasting start at about 20 euros (Santa Catarina, Son Prim, Vi Rei) and longer tastings with food are around 50 to 75 euros. At Vi Rei you can taste without a tour from 7 euros, and Sa Clasta's tour with transfer starts at 155 euros. Always confirm the price when booking.

Which Mallorca wineries offer tours in German?

According to our listings, Macià Batle, Ramanyà, Tianna Negre, Son Prim, Bordoy and Vi Rei offer visits in German (at Vi Rei, not in low season until April), as do the sommelier tasting by Wine Tasting Mallorca and the Treurer olive oil estate. Ask for the German slot when booking.

Do you need to book to visit a winery?

Almost always. Ribas, Oliver Moragues, Mortitx, Santa Catarina and Mesquida Mora (for its longer formats) require advance booking, and most of the others recommend it. A few, such as Can Axartell or Miquel Oliver's tasting room, may let you drop in if there is space, but it is not worth the risk in high season.

Can you visit a winery with children?

It depends on the winery. Es Fangar, Can Gelat, Butxet, Mortitx, Bordoy, Avinae and Los Dos Caballeros are for over-18s only. Oliver Moragues has a reduced price for ages 7 to 17 and Miquel Oliver runs visits also aimed at families. With young children, Roig's olive oil tasting (free under 6) is the easiest option.

How can you do a wine tour without driving?

Book a tour with transfer: Sa Clasta picks you up anywhere on the island and visits two wineries, and 48h in Mallorca takes you by minivan from Palma to a winery in Santa Maria del Camí. Alternatively, taste in Palma at Avinae, or have the Wine Tasting Mallorca sommelier come to your holiday home.
